The 5 keys to choosing your wedding planner
Real experience with weddings, not just events
A wedding is not a corporate event or a birthday. It has an enormous emotional weight, specific protocol and a quantity of details that can only be learned through experience. Ask directly: how many weddings last year? Experience with your venue? Can you see real wedding timelines?
Clear and constant communication
Communication is probably the most important factor. Your wedding planner will be your main point of contact for months. If communication does not flow from the start, it will not improve later. Look for: reasonable response times, clarity, active listening and regular updates.
Real coordination with all your vendors
Your wedding planner should be the communication hub between all vendors: makeup artist, photographer, DJ, catering, florist, venue. She should share detailed day timelines, manage arrival times and have plan Bs for unexpected situations.
Clear contract and cost transparency
A professional wedding planner works with a contract. Always. The contract should detail: services included, scope, number of pre-wedding meetings, working hours on the day, total cost, payment terms, cancellation policy, and whether she receives commissions from recommended vendors.
Verifiable references and real reviews
Search Google Maps, bride groups on Facebook, Bodas.com.pe, and ask for direct contact with 2-3 previous brides. The most revealing questions: How was communication? Were there any unexpected situations and how were they handled? Were vendors well coordinated? Would you hire her again?
Why does the getting ready reveal a good wedding planner?
As a makeup artist, the getting ready is where I interact most with the wedding planner, and where her level of professionalism shows most. A well-coordinated getting ready has: a detailed makeup timeline, good lighting, no constant interruptions, and the planner ensuring the bride eats, hydrates and stays calm.
Questions for the first meeting
- How many weddings did you coordinate last year?
- What is your working style: involved in everything or day-of only?
- How do you handle unexpected situations? Give me a real example.

- How do you communicate with the bride's vendors?
- Do you receive commissions from vendors you recommend?
